American composer, conductor, pianist, author and music lecturer.
Most famous for his time as music director with The New York Philharmonic Orchestra and his works such as "West Side Story" and "On The Town".
Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971.
He married actress Felicia Montealegre on September 10, 1951, with whom they had three children, Jamie Bernstein, Alexander Bernstein and Nina Bernstein.
