Artista
Rancid foi formado em 1991 em Berkeley, Califórnia, por Matt Freeman e Tim Armstrong, ambos membros da Operação Ivy e Downfall (6).
Rancid inclui Armstrong na guitarra e vocais, Freeman no baixo e vocais, Brett Reed na bateria e Lars Frederiksen na guitarra e vocais. Reed deixou a banda em 2006 e foi substituído por Branden Steineckert, ex-baterista de The Usado. Em novembro de 2006, Armstrong e Freeman foram membros permanentes da banda e Frederiksen não se juntou a Rancid até 1993 depois que a banda estava procurando por um segundo guitarrista.
