Lou Reed (born March 2, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, USA - died October 27, 2013, Southampton, New York) was an American musician, composer, songwriter, and photographer. He was the guitarist and principal vocalist and songwriter for The Velvet Underground (1964-1970), and performed solo or as part of collaborations until shortly before he died. He was married to Bettye Kronstad (1973-ca. 1974), Sylvia Reed (1980-1994), and Laurie Anderson (2008).
