often compared to george gershwin, antonium carlos jobim, was born in the tijuca, a neighborhood of the river of January. the family wanted antonium carlos to be an architect, but shortly after completing 20 years, the appeal of the song became irresistible and to begin acting in nightclubs and participating in studio sessions. in 1954 launches ?tom and his band,? that achieves a moderate success. the fame arrives two years later when in partnership with the poet vinício de moraes composes part of the incidental music for the carnival ? that would later be adapted to cinema with the name ?black orpheus?. In 1958 the then-unknown singer john clay recorded some of the topics of jobim, is the beginning of bossa nova. success beyond borders arises in 1962 when stan getz and charlie bird record undefined, that same year jobim and other Brazilian artists are invited to participate in a concert in the meatgie hall in new york. the success is enormous and the world of jazz welcomes the bossa with open arms, the phenomenon lasts until the late 1960s. the present compilation brings together recordings made over three decades and presents all the great successes of bossa nova's father.
