Formada em 1974 em Nova Iorque, EUA. Originalmente chamado de New York City Players, mas mudou para The Players após um processo contra eles, pelos Ohio Players. Lançado 17 álbuns entre 1977 e 2000. Seu sucesso definitivo é "Word Up" de 1986. Nos anos 2000, Cameo-bassist Aaron Mills começou a colaborar com OutKast.
