Celtic Thunder tocou seu primeiro show em maio de 1977 no Harp Pub em Baltimore, e passou a se tornar um dos mais influentes grupos de música tradicionais nos EUA.
Chamado de "uma grande banda irlandesa" pela Village Voice e "um dos melhores atos folclóricos irlandeses na América" pelo The Washington Post.
Celtic Thunder lançou três álbuns.
O segundo CD da banda, The Light Of Other Days, ganhou o prêmio INDIE de Melhor Álbum Celta.
